Girls and Sport

A few weeks ago I received an email from Fram asking if I would be interested in writing for SquashSite’s new Carte Blanche column. When I asked her what exactly she wanted me to write about, especially as everyone knows I can spout plenty of garbage without too much substance, back came the reply: ‘Write about whatever you feel like’. So, with no real pressure…here goes!

I am a keen sportswoman, in fact I love sport and I couldn’t live without it. I obviously love squash, but my adoration of sport doesn’t just stop there. Hockey, netball, racketball, you name a sport and I probably enjoy it. I say probably, because I’m going to have to take fencing and synchronised swimming out of the ‘love list’, but you get the picture.  At the moment I am getting more involved with coaching and I am enjoying the challenge of improving players of all ages and abilities. But as much as that has been rewarding, it has also thrown up a massive concern and worry. Namely, why aren’t there more females playing sport?
